Over the past 2 months, the Analytics of many of our clients’ and other websites have reported symptoms caused by Google’s latest Algorithm update - known as the “quality update”.
The update, which Google referred to in May, was engineered to reduce the rankings of low-quality websites. The fact that Google has not provided specific answers to questions about what constitutes “low quality” proves our research that this latest algorithm tweak is simply optimisation of Google’s own code in a changing Internet market.
Google still heavily promotes websites with quality content measured by quality user experience.
A statistic you should focus on within your Analytics is the “Bounce Rate”, which is the percentage of your visitors which exit your website immediately upon entry without engaging with the content, links, etc.
We found that websites with a higher bounce rate were most impacted by this “quality update”. Those with a lower bounce rate are clearly considered higher quality by Google, and therefore their rankings were rewarded.
