Australian net filtering issue needs middle ground solutionThe jury is out on the Rudd government's plan to censor the internet of offensive material using a custom-built filter and a set of legislation. The Australian government, led by Communications Minister Stephen Conroy, wants to censor materials that are not available via traditional mediums, like television and movies. For example, child pornography, extreme violence, etc. The internet community, as expected when they hear the word 'censorship', has gone crazy. The main issues of conjecture are: the internet community wants nothing censored because the internet is a special form of media that should remain untouched - the government feels internet should not be treated as 'special' enough to allow for vision of offensive material; the internet community says once you start censoring, you cannot guarantee that what you plan to censor will be what you end up censoring - the government says tests have proven their system is 1

Go - the new programming language by GoogleAttention programmers; a new open source programming language called Go has been launched by none other than those innovators at Google. Why? Because no significant language has come to the fore in the last decade, while many changes have occurred on the web during that time. Google are known to prefer Python and Javascript, therefore Go is expected to resemble a combination of both, as well as its own flavour. The video below is a one-hour long Google introduction on Go Programming Language: Please click here for an online tutorial for the Go Programming Language!

3 things to consider when typing copy for your websiteIf you have read any of my blogs, you will know that when forming a strategy for your website, you must have 'traffic' in mind - specifically, how you plan to attract traffic to your website. Google, Bing and other search engines remain the single most potent source of traffic delivery to all websites. For this reason, it is important that when you are typing content for your website, you consider Google and other search engines as much as your customer, who will eventually read it. Here are my top 3 tips to consider when typing copy for your website: A page for each keyword It may seem an attractive proposition to litter your Homepage, or Services page, with all your important keywords. This will only confuse search engine spiders. It is important to give each of your keywords their own page, and by showing these keywords such respect, you will encourage search engines like Google to do likewise. Repetition of keywords It is a fact that the more tim

Top 5 Twitter tips to business successAt KayWeb, we are all about guiding clients to embrace what is good on the web to advance their business. Recently I blogged about Twitter. That despite Facebook being the best social networking ticket for individuals, the benefits of Twitter far outweigh those of Facebook when it comes to business. The chief reason is that while Facebook pages are private to non-members, Twitter pages are public. Both are very popular websites, but by being public, there is greater chance your business will be exposed by Twitter to a wide audience. Further, a link to your business website, blog, etc posted on Twitter, and clicked through from Twitter, will win you kudos with search engines like Google and Bing. Here are my top 5 tips to get you and your business tweeting effectively: Create account You have to be in it to benefit. Go to www.twitter.com and take the 5-10 minutes to register, add a picture and dress up your background. Follow people Use Tw

Google Wave to revolutionise internet communicationGoogle Wave is, as according to co-architect Lars Rasmussen, what email would be if it were invented today. As written in my personal blog review of Google Wave, Google Wave collaborates all modes of internet communication into one common 'inbox'. These modes include email, instant messaging, blogging, tweeting, networking, etc. As far as its methods... Google Wave allows you to do the above using web-exclusive technologies which allow for the live transfer of this data, the use of drag-and-drop for easy-adding, etc. Most impressive is that it is 'open source', with Google inviting unlimited developers like my team at KayWeb Sydney to develop extensions which will continue to improve Google Wave for users. Please put 1hr 20 minutes aside and watch the following video. This is an excellent demo led by Rasmussen, who also helped buit Google Maps, himself at the Google IO developer conference.
